Lee Westerners

Back in production (?)

Any guesses on how they compare to the Poitier-worn originals, or the J Crew interpretations of a few years ago?

Re: Lee Westerners

I just received my pair and I gotta say that I love 'em already. I'm gonna need to taper them (which is basically expected with every pair of casual pants I get) but the quality and cut of the waist and rise is spot on. The rise isn't AS high as I'd like being that it's 11" on a 31" waist (though they measure 15" across the waist), but they still look great and aren't at all constricting like other repros I've tried.

If anyone is contemplating buying them, I'd definitely say go ahead and pull the trigger; you might want to size up though if you're afraid they might be a tad too small in the waist.

Re: Lee Westerners

Why are you getting them tapered Bradley, are they very wide or just wider than you like?

I know it's personal preference but if they are a true repro cut and fit then I don't really get why you would alter them, surely you are going for an authentic look, otherwise you might of well have bought a pair of regular 511's.

Hope that doesn't sound rude, not meant to, I just wondered, looking forward to seeing a photo.

Re: Lee Westerners

Made for the Japanese market and not for sumo wrestlers haha.

A 36 would be a normal addition though surely.

Re: Lee Westerners

Rakuten is difficult to navigate but there appear to be different variations on the Westerner cut and colors.

In addition, they are made in sizes to accommodate the larger gent.

Bradley, what did shipping to the USA cost, and did you find the measurements on the page more or less accurate?

Periodically weighing in on controversial topics, such as "How would Poitier have looked in the 'tube slim' Westerners?"

Re: Lee Westerners

These look good and are available up to 36.

Tempted by several diff Lee Japan remakes on Rakuten but it's a bit confusing. It appears that just as manufacturers are incapable of consistent sizing, sellers are unable to accurately measure. And then in the photos half the models seem to be wearing them as if they were made by Rocawear.

Re: Lee Westerners

In the last year I've lost my livelihood, my family, my self respect, and most confoundingly, an eighth of an inch of my inseam.  I spent an hour reflecting on how this all came to pass, and could only conclude it was due to this thread never having been properly resolved to my satisfaction.
