Re: Leftfield.

Dieworkwear has a great collection of snaps in his article on the jacket. Fits perfectly into the Ivydrobe.

Re: Leftfield.

I had a look at these in Bel Y Cia, really nice. The one that really took my fancy was a light green job in 100% cashmere. Too short in the arms though. They said they could make a longer length to order but at 800 euro I'd have to try it on before buying. When The Armoury sold Justo Gimeno Teba's they said that the maker would also make a longer model, but again I'd have to try it on.

Re: Leftfield.

What price is the OTR offering?

Surprised at how well the windowpane check works on these. In fact its the only time I've ever like windowpane check. British hacking jackets make me want to vomit no matter the cloth but windowpane check, which is quite popular on hacking jackets… I actually have to stop wiring about it as I am feeling quite unwell. But you get my point.

Re: Leftfield.

Great idea for a thread, and great subject to start it off with... I hadn't encountered this coat style before, but it's very cool... I can even imagine an Ivy man going to Europe, Dickie Greenleaf style, and coming back with one of these...

Re: Leftfield.

It seems like a distant relative of the Pendleton Topsman/Topster (can't remember which) a shirt type jacket with button cuffs, although a much nicer quality item and without the compulsory lumberjack checks.

There's definitely a place for this type of garment in the casual aesthetic that prevails now. I went out locally last night with Mrs W, a pub drink first then we ended up in a bar/tapas place. I deployed in a light tweed J Press sports coat but can't really remember seeing another guy wearing a jacket all evening. We are talking about the burbs rather the centre of a big town, but in that situation you need an outfit that says to the masses.......

'I am smarter than you all, but I recognise your desire for casualness and I am prepared to make certain adjustments when I move amongst you'.

The Teba certainly delivers that need for relaxed, smart slouchiness. I'm not sure about the lapel though, but I guess it's part of the 'I'm not wearing a a jacket - but actually I am' look?

I like the picture you have put up of your Teba GW and its nice to see you posting again S.

Re: Leftfield.

I like these a lot... I think the pocket square is an underrated accessory... Say what you will about the man but Prince Charles has a way with them, always a mismatched rather than matched one with his tie...

The Italian idea of sprezzaturra (not sure I've spelled that right) is completely applicable to Ivy... the little careless touches that show you don't cre (although of course we all do)... And I think that the casually floofed pocket square is a perfect opportunity to display some of this... I especially like that yellow, blue and brown...

Re: Leftfield.

Interesting post. I don't remember coming across these either, but I'd wear one too.

On the subject of European sporting classics, Die Workwear had a good post on Loden Coats a few years back. I like the look of these too:

Re: Leftfield.

On the subject of Euro Classics that  work with THE LOOK, Dieworkwear has been a great online source of inspiration and education. I bought my Valstarino blouson as a direct result of his post:

A fashion version of the A1, that works equally well with chinos and loafers or wool trousres and brogues.

This online store also has plenty of interest for the Ivy minded

Re: Leftfield.

Nice jacket Chief. I can sometimes feel a bit constricted around the waist in A1s, but that looks a good fit. I like a generous pocket too.

I think the grey wool one on the DW post works well.

Re: Leftfield.

I love seude bomber type coats. I got the Aquascutum Carnaby last summer that I just love, great with grey flannels, jeans or navy blue cords.

"Smedley seems to have gone a bit bland of late don't ya think?"

Yes, haven't liked most of their colourways for a few years now. Too many acid yellows and purples. I get the impression they've got aspirations to be the next Burberry.
