Re: Unexpected Ivy in movies

good view of Frankenstein in what seems to be a Shetland crewneck sweater .....

O'Connell's has one ...... some people think a black sweater is monstrous ... could be good though for all your Beatnik Ivy needs ....

Just stumbled upon this deleted scene from The Godfather 2 and couldn't help notice some nice ivy action.

Not ivy I know, but I saw The Lost Weekend (1945) last night, and Ray Milland sports some fine button downs:

“I have never listened to anyone who criticised my taste in space travel, sideshows or gorillas. When this occurs, I pack up my dinosaurs and leave the room.”

Re: Unexpected Ivy in movies

watching the CIA origin movie The Good Shepherd (2006), enjoying a large number of good suits, neckties, eyeglasses, overcoats, raincoats, and black tie .....

a few of the dinner jackets in the film feature notch lapels, which are sometimes seen as anathema although they predate Ivy by more than 40 years, were around in the early 1900s, popular in the '20s, and were even occasionally worn by JFK around the time of the Bay of Pigs crisis, which is the era of part of the film ..... not to mention the assorted Rat Pack member and James Bond in 1964's Goldfinger to name a few, and were offered by J. Press in the late '60s .....

the picture slightly predates Ivy though it is very Ivy League

regrettably though perhaps accurately the spies wear plain point collar shirts and buttondown collars are very rare in the film except for a scant couple of shots, including one of a little kid in a buttondown plaid flannel sport shirt ......

William Hurt as a CIA director is seen wearing this very tie, an emblematic featuring a Scottish terrier, which is still available from the nice folks at Chipp:
