After months of not looking at Ebay, I chose a propitious time to do so and came up with the following from the golden days of Brooks.
1) Brooks Makers, 6 button, summer weight blue label, white ocbd. Pristine but for the following issues. A bit of fraying on the left cuff - solved with fabric adhesive. A monogram on the left cuff - solved with a seam ripper.
2) Brooks Makers, 7 button, pink/white stripe broadcloth. Pattern is similar to Mercer's classic stripe #036. Minor fraying. I am always impressed by the quality of the broadcloth used by Brooks in the old days.
3) Brooks Makers, dark green shetland. Has the old italic lettering on the label. This one is so good you would think it has been unworn and in storage for over thirty years.
4) Brooks Makers tie. Navy-dark green-khaki stripes. One more for the collection.
5) Brooks Makers tie. Rare wool/silk blend. Navy ground with green/yellow pattern.

Nice - The shetland sounds perfect.
I picked up a 6-button makers in blue with a collar-pin-able collar (ie. an unlined non-button down collar). Bit of a venture into the unknown on this one, but for about £15 total, I can live with the risk!

Farrago, was there any scarring after you removed the monogram? I've missed out on some good shirts over the years solely because of the presence of a monogram.

A monogram shouldnot be too bad on new shirts Yuca but if fabric has started to bleach from sunlight it should come up darker underneath, also if it's a dense logo like the RL pony on a plain shirt it is noticeable on a plaid or madras then it's hidden a bit better

In that case I might risk it one of these days. I wouldn't even want my own monogram on a shirt, let alone someone else's.

No, the operation was successful. It took me three hours of slow, patient work. The monogram was navy thread, which helped to see what the seam ripper was cutting.
I gave the shirt a wash right after, and the pattern of the monogram disappeared.
Nice score, Colin. There's that feeling of satisfaction when the gamble goes in your favor.
The shetland arrived just in time. It is supposed to top 100 degrees next week in my part of the world.

Thanks!! The shoulder is 16 inches and the length of the jacket is 28.5 inches measured from the bottom of the collar. 🔥
