Speaking of LaFaro, Portrait in Jazz. Heard it on youtube, lovely album. Still trying to find it, though, along with Jazz Impressions of Japan.

On vinyl, you mean? Because it's definitely been reissued on CD and in digital versions... It's funny you mention it, Portrait In Jazz is playing on my speakers right now... It's one of the perfect albums for me, and I was lucky enough to hear it at the very beginning of my exposure to jazz. It is a really lovely record.

Yeah, vinyl. I've recently started collecting. Jazz Impressions was what got me into it, that's why I'm searching high and low for it. I agree though, Portrait in Jazz is a fantastic album. Thank God records are easier to come by than a 36R sport coat, haha.

Big ups for Oliver Lake, David Murray, Hamiet Bluett... If you haven't checked out all of David Murray's output from the 1980s, you're wrong.

I'm brushing up on my 80s jazz if anyone can recommend anything along these lines that'd be great...

Cheers BB I thought you might be up on it, I've read the collective term for this period is neo-bop. Miles wasn't particularly flattering to the neotraditionalists work calling it "warmed up turkey".
