In Stanshall's photo two posts up, gotta admit I really like that period of furniture with the 1"x1" (or smaller) steel frame (chrome plate or polished).  Detested it way way back.  But it grows on me.  Clean lines.

Re: Ivy Time Machine

This is a fun exercise.

I'm actually here now:

Although I would have an easier time finding furniture like this:
http://78.media.tumblr.com/f9ea018667cd1f931cc534c7cb9b1dbe/tumblr_mzz7csKxPk1ruu90ro1_500.png

I'd love to work here:

And work her instead of MS Office:

It's a general rule to please limit the political nature of posts. My personal feeling is that Goldwater is on thin ice. It's true this is a more personal thread, an opportunity to paint a portrait of who you feel you would have been in a certain time period... However, history is complex; to play pretend that it's 1964 is a fun thing to do, and it's what this thread is for, but we have to keep in mind that there's a lot about that time that's problematic today, and was so even at the time...

There is always a place for civil discussion and we've had some really interesting and enlightening debates here at Talk Ivy about a range of ideas... If that happens here then I think we all benefit, so I'm letting these stay for now, but if things go downhill the politics will be removed.

Ah, from the halcyon days of yore, when adding a can of Cream of Mushroom soup elevated a dish to gourmet status and provided the ticket to culinary adventure!

The SF pics aren't so bad, either.

Michael Caine to Sue Lloyd in 'The Ipcress File' ... "I'm going to cook you the best meal you've ever tasted'.

He then cooks her a mushroom omelette with tinned 'shrooms' and she falls into bed with him.

Mind you, spag bol and a bottle of red did the trick for me a few times!  😊

Re: Ivy Time Machine

Big fan of Harry Palmer/ Caine look. And demeanor.

No offense meant by my Au/H2O images. The convention was at the Cow Palace in San Francisco (right below one of the hidden classic municipal golf courses). To me that makes it special as the traditionally east coast thing had a lot from the west that year.

The guy jumping from plane to car actually lands in the seat on the tv commercial. Has more of a tractor-beam type speed of movement instead of a fall, so he was good to go.
And yes that Blacker ad has probably my favorite cut blazer I've ever seen.

Since wheat gives me sinus allergies I wonder how I would have survived in '64. Maybe in SF I could just eat Chinese food all the time. Although there's a chance I never would have even found out and had just thought it was the air, and moved to the desert or something.
