Some recent emblematic tie purchases... Shout-out to stan with the Trimingham's Bermuda tie... "Participant 1970 Bermuda Race," made in England... Tie with terriers is actually from Tommy Hilfiger...

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

So have been in search of a navy summer weight suit for my wedding in a 40 long for a long time and may well have stumbled across my solution. It has a slight plaid check to it, but it looks quite subtle, which is fine.

My requirements were that it needed to be natural shoulder, slim without being too slim, not too heavy (it's wash and wear), boom years rise and with cuffs (which isn't easy with long legs). Ticks all those boxes, so assuming it's not too well-worn already (it might need a bit of TLC), reckon I can wear it with a tab collar a slim repp tie.

Because it was a bargain basement $19, I could also purchase some USA-made nearly new (ish) weejuns for $20 and slim black rooster knit tie for $4.50. There's definitely cheap bargains still to be found on ebay............

Wow, colin. That suit is stunning - would look great with a tab collar, point or OCBD, I'd reckon. Beautiful hook vent - amazing find, especially for $19! Incredible! I'm a 40R, so I always see a bunch of 40L stuff mixed in with the results, a lot of it is really nice and I often find myself wishing I'd grown a few more inches!

Love those USA Weejuns too...

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Thanks, BB. Was pretty surprised when I stumbled across it. Spent months searching and just went and popped up on ebay. Fingers crossed but measurements looked to be absolutely perfect. Shall keep an eye out for any 40 reg stuff and send it your way!

Come to think of it, I've a navy blue collar-pin-able brooks shirt, I might wear with it. Looks pretty versatile, anyway.

Haha, please don't, I already have enough! big_smile Be sure to post some pics when it does arrive and you wear it, we'd all love to see the final result...

In other news, inspired by your wash 'n wear success I just picked up this made in USA Brooks Brothers 3/2 poplin sack, patch pockets and 2 on the sleeve, sadly no hook vent - I did see an old Orvis poplin with hook vent for about the same price, but it had some small issues so in a close race the Brooks pulled ahead...

Awesome suit, and jacket, too.

I was under the impression Brooks didn't do the hook? That the vent and sleeve buttons were different.

Colin, that suit is superb.  And what a deal!  And I'm really into that blazer posted by YoungIvy.  And of course you can't go wrong with a beige poplin jacket like Berk's.

In spite of trimming the fat in my wardrobe, I did succumb to a few purchases over the past six months or so...

New old stock LL Bean heavy chamois robe.  Still had the customer guarantee card and hanging retail label on the sleeve.  No price on the label though.  I'm guessing '70s - '80s vintage.  It's really comfortable and warm and perfect for a cold morning (with coffee) or night (with hot chocolate or cocktails).

Then there's this beige hopsack blazer from Brooks 346.  Should be a good item for spring - early summer.

I was really excited about this NOS madras jacket from Brooks.  Never seen the "Summer Authentic" label before.  Made in the USA.

I actually don't know anything about that... If so, I've learned something! Come to think of it, none of my old Brooks jackets have the hook...

To my knowledge, Brooks’ never did a hook vent until their failed “own make” line. It’s no wonder they couldn’t recreate their iconic past when they can’t even get their own history straight.

WM, incredible robe! I have a new chamois robe from Bean and it's wonderful, I can only imagine the NOS is even better! Amazing find...

Love that madras too... Never seen Summer Authentic either but did see just "Authentic" recently with the same label design, hadn't com across that before.
