Got a $10 off LL Bean code expiring tonight (EST I assume), someone use it: 200021079237404361 PIN 3954
sic transit gloria mundi department: L.L. Bean imposes new one-year limit on returns due to fraud and restricts free shipping to purchases of $50 or more:

Were the old 60/40 US made Bean ocbds any good or was it the cotton ones that were the real deal?
I would of course prefer a hundred percent cotton one, but the reason I'm asking is that I'm looking at a lovely blue/white striped 60/40 Bean ocbd. Not sure if I can resist the temptation...
The mix are ok for the plaids the US OCBDs are great, closure is like the 7 button makers, same factory apparently. (Citation needed)
I had on old all cotton Bean OCBD and I would put money on it having been made by the same people who were making Makers. It was almost identical but slimmer fitting. Plus it was a little too short on the sleeves. (Maybe someone shrunk it or maybe the sizings were a little different between the 2 brands.)
However with all those good all cotton Makers out there, I personally would never consider a mix. A number of people on here think differently.
They tend to fluff up more on the collar than I've seen on cotton shirts, with the plaids they're in they're a different beast really I think they're more geared to living/working outdoors, they don't seem to hold the sweat like an all cotton shirt.

I have a few of the poly/cotton mix LL Bean OCBDs, I love them... I agree with Babbling, they're somewhat of a different beast, but they have a really nice feel, great collar. Highly recommended...
always went for all-cotton, back in the day the shirts were not that expensive ($22 wtf), we'd buy a new one to avoid doing laundry until the bean counters finally got pissed
never had a Bean cotton/poly but I did once inadvertently get a cotton poly 65/35 ocbd from Press in really nice shade of blue with white crayon stripe, fall/winter '78 catalog at #147, $20, and this shirt was excellent, once I found out it had polyester in it I determined to kill it by wearing it out, it lasted for 20 years, it would not be destroyed, and it was always wearable and it became an improbable fave, unlike the pure cotton ocbds which would start to look a little thrashed after being worn 20 or 30 times by an 18-year-old
did not want to give the 100% cotton shirts to the campus laundries, they were known shirt manglers though adequate otherwise for socks, sheets, boxers, pillowcases, tees, but not for J. Press shirts
I think Bean, Press, the Co-Op, and the Coop all bought their cotton/poly ocbds from the same place back then
though I never bought a cotton/poly shirt again I remember it fondly, so I would say experiment with a likely one for $10 or $15
Thanks for your input everybody! Sounds like a great shirt , stan. I don't really mind poly in shirts as long as they are well made. Will try it out and see for myself and report back here...

Or just wear double socks. I have the shorter version and they really do not keep your feet warm. Plus your feet sweat in them. However when the weather is torrential they can come in useful, and they are stylish in their weird way.

^ A++ Babbling... What's the vintage on that? Label looks pretty new. That's a really cool find.
