Ted's hair was really the only good thing about him post-1969, besides in my opinion certain good political stances we don't need to discuss at length here because it's not the place... But as a human being, his hair was really what kept you coming back... Nothing matches RFK's 1968 hair though...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_glM_f-yO8M

If only we'd gotten to see what Bobby would have done with the 70s and 80s... I like to imagine that it wouldn't have been horrible... Teddy stayed relatively conservative with his clothes and he was always the most flamboyant...

Haha the RFK clip was pretty funny. I yield my time re: the Orson Welles clip.

And yes, Stan. I was talking about hair when I said flow.

kid I'm still stuck on Feel Flows and life flows on within you and without you, I'm not fully up on that new stuff

but it's funny and I like it

I saw Slap Shot when it was new and was at the first game the Florida Panthers ever played though, and have seen a fair amount of hockey at The Whale and the long-demolished Miami Arena ......

Re: The Late 70s Prep Checklist

Speaking of Ted I'm really looking forward to a Chappaquiddick_ movie coming out soon.

Looks awesome!

Nice sneakers, nice waders but did Bonobos make those pants or what??

Oops looks like it already came and went. I guess nobody screened it in San Francisco.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chappaquiddick_(film)

Whoops again - release date April 6 2018. I thought I'd just read 2017, maybe that only meant it was filmed then.

Also, it's set in 1969 (explains those short hems on the not-too-young ladies). Not heyday, but at least it's a trad neighborhood so we'll see some good stuff.

I'm looking forward to the clothes, cars, haircuts and (hopefully) Ed Helms saying 'tuna' at least once.

^ Have never stumbled across the Dover St Market during our visits to NYC. I see from the store plan, that on the 2nd floor they stock a brand called ..... 'Fucking Awesome'.

I can't see O'Connell's carrying that anytime soon.

Personally, I've never got a lot out of the T shirt over a long sleeve top look.

A bit like wearing your underpants over your trousers when you're not Superman.

Heh, agreed, Woof, on myself. Do quite dig the beat up Dartmouth togs on this fella though - some people really pull off the whole 'letting one's self go on vacation look'. I'm just not necessarily one of them.

Highlight for me is the upturned Budweiser bucket hat second from top left. As a fat guy, I have 2 aesthetic choices, I feel - conceal by being super buttoned up, or look like the life of the party. I would def party with someone in that hat.

FKA is owned and operated by former pro-skateboarder Jason Dill, which is all that needs to be said on the matter wink

it's a dirtbag thing it's true but I can relate, sure he did it because he wanted to display his Dartmouth -sleeve tee but he also needed to layer a bit ......

I'm sure football is where it started. Got to show your colors and number, but the game involves quite a lot of standing around in the winter so you'll need another layer.

mh, to my eye I don't see any real preps there at all, and only two semi-preps there, the Dartmouth jersey kid in the Ray-Bans, and the young blonde woman in the green jacket on the cover of Ski-Life 1976 ......

19 of the 22 guys pictured have facial hair, but moustaches and beards weren't preppy in the late '70s, even the many preps from major schools who had very long hair back in the '70s didn't have beards or moustaches.  Add long hair, 60/40 parkas, Adidas, and running shoes to classic Ivy, de-emphasize the penny loafer in favor of Top-Siders and Bean moccasins, and you get Late '70s Prep.

Best things in these photos are the sunglasses, plus one guy in a Shetland and one guy (on the cover of Ski-Life 1976 (Colorado) in a good tan down jacket

not preppy but very cool for me to look at nevertheless and then some, I love seeing pics from those years and saying to myself, "If only the collars had been normal-sized but then what about the platform shoes and bellbottoms?" .....

Heh, thanks for setting the record straight, Stan. Was unsure of if/whether there was much overlap between the ski bum aesthetic and proper prep at this period. Glad you liked nonetheless!
