Those were the good ol' days for guys like Pedantic Turkey.

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true.

Anyone know whether the color name in question was unique to Press or more common at the time?  Seems like an odd marketing ploy.

Chums,

This was discussed recently.  It seems such term was commonly used at one time.   Moreso in the UK and abroad,, so perchance Press was trying to sound English, not Suthern.

Re: The Dark Side (no Pun Intended) Of Southern Tnsil

Thanks for the link.  Clears that up.  Naughty English.  Next time I'm over, I shall march straight into Cordings and request cords in that color.  Probably get me deported and the store tied up in the Race Relations Board for years.

EDIT:  Aside from the Niger Brown dodge mentioned in the other thread, what is this color now called?  Can one get around the whole nasty connotation by requesting trousers-of-color?

Re: The Dark Side (no Pun Intended) Of Southern Tnsil

I find it humorous that this board loves to banter about the basest sexual deviancies and run down conservatives, Christians and even Jesus Christ himself but convulses with offense at the use of the word nucca nearly 70 years ago.  Fuck is fine to type, but I guess in PC dogma the word n*gger needs to be knowingly referenced but remain untyped, much like the word G*d for the orthodox jews.  (If you doubt me, search on posts containing "Jesus" and "fuck" you'll get 6 and 10 pages.)

Anyway, Press clearly wasn't targeting us Confederates as any good racialist much prefers his recreation slacks in Injun-Red or High-Yellow. wink

I think reactions to the dreaded "N word" have become much stronger as I have gotten older.

However, it was always considered vulgar and pejorative, and I'm surprised that as upscale an outfit as Press would have used it.

As late as the 1950s there was a body of water in Los Angeles called "nucca Slough" and printed as such on the maps!

^Watch out, Speas.  Kinky Friedman is going to mess up what everyone "knows" about us down South.
