Etta blows my mind. Her stuff on the Chess box set is brilliant. I really need to pick up a decent compilation of her stuff. Any recommendations?

I've got the Chess set but after the first run through all I ever play now is "I'd Rather..."

Anybody else?

Re: Groovin' at the I Spot -

Chris, the compliment is appreciated. The Chess set is a pleasure on a variety of levels. While I love all the obvious stuff (Muddy Waters et al.), there are some happy surprises, especially the Dale Hawkins stuff.

A little bit of Howling Wolf (backdoor man) for everyone even if the men don't understand.

Im out to make it with my midnight dream, yeah
cause Im a back door man, the men dont know
But the little girls understand, all right, yeah
You men eat your dinner, eat your pork and beans
I eat more chicken, than any man ever seen, yeah, yeah

The temperature is back down here. For you Sun Never Sets types, the great (tongue-in-cheek) fake mod anthem:
The Sussed "I Got Me Parka"
(Why hasn't anyone posted this stuff?)

Re: Groovin' at the I Spot -

HBH,

I was floored by your past song pic post (solid, solid stuff).

Stop the Wedding is hilarious. There is no doubt that it's a wrencher; however, Etta's ultra sincere "STOP. STOP THE WEDDING" is so loud that you can't help wonder if Etta has perhaps made a mistake in figuring out why this guy is going out w/ someone else. Also, the spoken introduction is a gas.

Re: Groovin' at the I Spot -

Yes, definitely a great song! I love it, and not just in a "that's too much" way, but I also love it for its intensity... sure, the introduction is a gas, indeed!!!

I got the 45 for "Stop the wedding", and I didn't buy it for the flip... it's just a nice bonus...

We should do a "Talk Ivy Weekend" with lunchtime clothes and records exchange, concerts in the evening, and maybe an allnighter... If you guys still can make it midnite to six, that is....

Re: Groovin' at the I Spot -

Or perhaps that is not such a cool idea...

as long as there's not a female ivy style group, it might be a little bit like some veteran boy scouts meeting...

There should be girls like her:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK7cKUNw9zI&feature=related

Meeting people from the internet is a little strange, anyway...

So I guess, that Weekend is a only a nice little internet fantasy..

If I really had to organize something like that, I would only use the net to spread the word, of course, but I wouldn't tie it to an online-community....
