Inane thread of the month. Nothing quite says "Useless Moron" like setting down their own prejudices as if they are actual rules.

The fully functioning life size doll of Liberace.
Noticed he has a book on Disraeli. Interesting...
An excerpt from the new book, "Guns, Germs, Steel, and Topys: The Fates of Human Societies".
Tie box idea seems a lot of hassle. It is bad enough having to receive items which often arrive when you are out requiring a visit to the Post Office. Sending them on is a definite Post Office trip. Just to swap a few ties. Most participants will be sound, but there's always one, as the saying goes.
Reading Mr. K;s post 689 on the thread puts a different slant on things and I can see it from his point of view.
Also understandle that lots involved in the swap realize what a hassle it can be and pull out. Probably best - if you do such a thing at all - to keep it among known, sound members. Alternatively recognise it may fail and live with it.

^ Is this an American thing - being a pals with the salesperson?
Not bein ' funny, but should not the sales assistant being giving presents to the good customers?
I get this a lot at work, and because I'm relatively young compared to the age of our average customer, I try to dress in a very low-key way because of it, if you dress in anything too exciting the customers get scared. In fact I know we gain a bit of custom lost by other local shops because of over-excitied young retail staff who think they know best, and who dress with literal gay abandon.
But it is horses for courses, our shop has run for 30 years, and relies on local people and our relationships with them. I enjoy that part of the job, learning someones taste, recommending items, working out in your mind what you think will work for them, I take more interest in that now than what I wear.
It's a bit like how I never trust a hairdresser with a silly haircut.
