Hi everyone,
I have a business meeting at the end of this month and I need something to wear!
My office has a casual dress code so I haven't needed a suit for quite some time. My current suits are cheap and horribly fitted. I'm 5"9, 10 stone / 140lbs and I always seem to have difficulty finding a well fitted suit given how slim I am. I've had a read through the slim-fit shirt guide thread and its been helpful, however a lot of the recommendations are for retailers based in the US, however i'm in the UK.
I'm considering just investing in a nice pair of shoes, trousers and a shirt at this stage, instead of a full suit. Is this a good idea?
Further questions I hope you guys can help with;
1) How much will I need to spend to get a decent, well fitted suit or trousers?
2) I'm looking at some Burberry London trousers - is this a good idea or should I get some tailored trousers (if so where from)?
3) Where can I buy (very)slim-fit shirts in the UK - Would I be better off getting a tailored shirt (if so where from)?
4) What are some good brands of shoe to look out for?
I would really appreciate your help on this guys! I know there is alot to answer!
Many thanks
Hennree
Meh, just go in your birfday suit and save the expense.
Yeah, wing it buck naked. If you're good they'll see past your shortcomings.
That's what you would do anyway Jim... then go for a dip in the pool?
That bloke blew my nudity out of all proportions...
One can only echo Mr. NJS - Just say MEH !
I doubt this cove is employable anyway...
My advice is, don't go slim-fit. You're guaranteed to look like a tit. Or you're presenting Match of the Day. Basically the same thing.
The OP should not follow the "advice" on Style Forum. There is no information on the purpose of the meeting or who he is meeting, key factors. Let us assume that the OP is not a troll (and we do get lots on here) and give some practical advice.
There is no need to splash out a few hundred pounds or even a grand for one meeting. If he wants a traditional (rather than a fashionable) style, he has a few options. Roderick Charles is still on sale - http://www.roderickcharles.com/pages/category/category.asp?ctgry=Suits&cookie%5Ftest=1. Harvie & Hudson's suits (Berwin IIRC) are on sale too. If he does go to M&S, the "Sartorial" range is reasonable quality for the price.
For shoes, I'd recommend a trip to John Rushton on Wimpole Street who has a good range of brands and fits. For a good slim fit shirt, Harvie & Hudson and Hilditch & Key (better back to £85 to £95 as the sale is over) are obvious options.
For a first meeting, I tend to wear plain navy or grey suit, a white or blue plain shirt, a maroon tie and plain black cap-toe Oxfords.
^ A very charitable response Bishop.
Not sure why he needs Burberry trousers. I thought they were for raincoats. M&S have a large selection of trousers to fit all sizes.
