This point was floated on SF in a 'Larry Lean' post but nobody bit (I think the congregation had grown a little tired by that point!).
The English cut & style which ought to be the most class-ridden on earth is in fact open to all. Quality of cut, fabric and detailing display status, taste, wealth, whatever. But the 'silhouette' and clothing items themselves are... 'just clothes'.
Where the idea that the American natural-shoulder cut is about social class ABOVE ALL ELSE originates from I'd love to know. I still suspect that it's the over-literal reading of Mr. Ralph Lauren's advertising campaigns.
