Re: Madras Madness!

That madras blazer is darted. If you zoom in you can see them clearly enough.

Not a deal breaker IMHO.

Re: Madras Madness!

I think Moose was referring to the Land End Jim.

And he's right... it is darted. Not too waisted though, it would seem.

Isn't it easier to produce an OTP jacket without darts? I don't see the point in producing one with darts if the intention is to make something with zero to minimum waist suppression.

Help?

Has anyone ordered Jacob Miller madras shirts?  You can see them here:
http://www.ruthiesrun.com/RR/Menswear/ViyellaDW.htm
and here:
http://www.dann-online.com/summer_madras_.htm (swatches only)

I like the crazy colors.  My dad used to wear one like that when I was a little kid in the 70's.

I like those vibrant colours too. I tried to order from Dann several years ago, and they would never process the card and I contacted them by email and they blanked me. I had the same trouble with New & Lingwood in the UK.

Another set of nice looking (long sleeved) madras shirt are those: http://kieljamespatrick.com/product/Indian_Madras_Shirts

A bit pricy, but maybe they'll have a sale...

Re: Madras Madness!

I saw some very nice Madras-style check shirts in (of all places!) John Bray's window on Jermyn Street yesterday. 2 fold cotton and made in Italy IIRC for around £50 to £65 depending on how many you buy. Sadly, there is no website so I can't link to them.

Re: Madras Madness!

I've been on a madras spree this Spring.  There are some decent prices to be had now.  The various Ralph L. brands offer a wide assortment, some of which are very nice if you are looking for bright colors.  The nicest LS shirts I've seen were from Woolrich Woolen Mills and Gitman Vintage - both very pricy and hard to find.

Re: Madras Madness!

You misread what I said. It's opposite where Dunhill used to be, i.e. on the same side as T&A.

Re: Madras Madness!

At least we are clear now.

The only problem is dealing with the "snake oil" salesmen in that place!

Bray himself, in my experience, is truly obnoxious.

However, those shirts looked good for the money.

Re: Madras Madness!

Oi. I'll be on the lookout.

I usually only hit H&H on Jermyn these days anyhow. I only stop in Turnbull for ties or linen pocket squares occasionally.

Re: Madras Madness!

Recent visits suggest that H&H is declining fast.

^ I was in H&H yesterday. There is something that does not feel right. It seems that the staff are just going though the motions.

Re: Madras Madness!

A further thought - it is possible that H&H is being taken over or that the owners are preparing to sell. The name is valuable and would appeal to someone who wants to invest in expansion like Lewin and Hawes & Curtis have done.

Jermyn Street and the arcades are experiencing a bit of a revival. JM Weston is now opposite Tricker's. Crockett & Jones' new store is doing fantastically well. Smart Turnout is in the same arcade as Loake's shop. Bates is prospering at Hilditch & Key. There is investment going into Budd.
