Re: Polo shirts

They must be 100 per cent cotton for me.  Always.

Re: Polo shirts

Again, looking forward to spring, I bought a Le Tigre for next to nothing on Ebay.  Apparently Ronald Reagan favoured the brand but that's not likely to cause me any sleepless nights.  Made in the USA.
Just looking on another thread about the pros and cons of Fred Perry.  The American posters of yesteryear seemed to get on with them.  I can't, not now.  Too many 'rude boy'/bonehead/lacklustre associations.
Reviewing life as I'm living it at the moment, with ailments piling up, I'm thinking of living the rest of my days in polo shirts, chinos and Astorflex.  Also contemplating espadrilles.  Might make a nice change from canvas Sperry.

Re: Polo shirts

There was a polo they sold in Harrington back in the day " Heritage Green Tiger " made in the USA. I've seen a few of their Bell Sleeve cardigans (of which I had a couple) on ebay/etsy.

Re: Polo shirts

Trawling old posts in connection with something I was once told at Russell Street about them no longer bothering with John Smedley, I chanced across a mention by the highly-respected Chris_H of Peter Geeson: stocked by JS possibly during the mid to late 80s.  Just picked up a nice example in navy from a seller on Ebay.  100 per cent cotton, Made In England.
This is why I love this forum.  Names are constantly cropping up - as with Rs posting above about 'HGT'.

Re: Polo shirts

Looks as if they're based in Long Eaton on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border.  I think Sunspel originated there.  Good textile area.

Re: Polo shirts

So, 'Campus Le Tigre'.  Made In The Good old US of A - still important to me, like lambswool made in England - but of poly/cotton - to which I have an aversion.  Probably more 'authentic Ivy/prep' that cotton Ralph Lauren (posters of a bygone age would emphasise the part Dacron etc. played during the 'Golden Age'.  But I once had an entirely artificial Lion Of Troy half-sleeve that I couldn't get along with).  Anyway, I've thrown it into our super-duper German washing-machine for a fifteen-minute freshen-up, then I'll put it in a drawer and think on it.  If I can wear it I can go back to wearing old Russell Athletic.  Illogical otherwise, wouldn't you agree?

Re: Polo shirts

The Peter Geeson also arrived today, a simple, Smedley-like long sleeve item.  Good layering piece for the colder weather: that nice navy on navy look: the polo under a v-neck cashmere I've been wearing on and off for years.  Should look okay with the stone, fly-fronted Brooks raincoat.
