Re: Garish bespoke?

^Thanks to Linkedin, I actually do know what has happened to all my mathematical nerdy chums from the sixth form: one has a Phd and is in research in the States, one sells telecommunication stuff along the M40 corridor, one is a top consultant in the rail world and another is a GM to an Italian company manufacturing components for compressors and other equipment.

It's the arty and humanity ones I am worried about. So many seemed to have left no cyber footprint, even at the height of the Friends Reunited mania with class reunions on the go, as if they vanished into thin air, mediocrity, madness and obscurity.

His piercings don't work for me, nor the "Fuck off" on the inside of his jacket. What's he trying to say, I am punk tailor?

Re: Garish bespoke?

I'm sure they do have some old school landed gentry type customers but I doubt they are a significant part of the business. I used to be at university with the scion of a family which collected most of the ground rent across Wales .. he made a point dressing atrociously and bought the cheapest suits he could off the rack ..also he wouldn't buy anything advertised on tv including branded toothpaste as he thought it would be a waste of money lol I think you'll find a lot of this type of inverted snobbery amongst the upper classes ..they think they're above dressing to impress etc smile

Re: Garish bespoke?

I find it true that many wealthy people tend to dress down while the mid level fledgling tries his best to dress up. A lot of the more established men I know will only buy food in discount groceries or things like that as well.

I've also found that the less well-to do are the strongest believers in silly marketing gimmicks like 'age old craftsmanship' or 'artisanship'.

Re: Garish bespoke?

Also, who hands out certification for a master tailor, other 'master tailors' or some kind of governing body at a trade school?

Master tailor or loser tailor of an igent are just labels, the degree to which they are earned can be suspect in both cases. Not that Corvato is not a man of impeccable skill, just saying.

Re: Garish bespoke?

The Row has been in a bit of a decline for a while, no?

Also, politicians, celebrities, suddenly wealthy, status insecure with money are a sizable group. More importantly, the status system in the UK is not the same as it is in NA...

And you have conflated some things...Savile Row is not even typical bespoke. Those who seek out Savile Row are not the same category as the fledglings. There are many people who support the Savile Row, and while those people might all be wealthy--all wealthy people do not visit the Row for their daily attire.

When you said you'd bite, you implied you had the capability to 'bite'...now you leave me disappointed
