Hi guys,
I am in the market for a warm overcoat. I have a Sterlingwear pea coat and a navy single breasted overcoat for suits, but yearn for something fancier that will better reflect my inner fanciness.
I generally do not think bespoke is necessary for overcoats or shoes. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good place for greatcoats?
I looked at O'Connell's, they have a decent selection but nothing particularly striking--I think their British warm coat is in a unflattering colour. Brooks Brothers also carries an Officer's coat that I quite like but it is around $3200, and my budget is in the $1500 range. Oh, and I'd prefer double breasted.
Here are the only options I was able to come up with:

http://www.brooksbrothers.com/Golden-Fleece%C2%AE-Officer%27s-Coat/ML00184,default,pd.html?dwvar_ML00184_Color=NAVY&contentpos=1
Anyone have any advice or ideas? Much appreciated...

^ I have a British Warm in Crombie cloth. It was a second hand garment from eBay. Second hand Crombies in the classic single breasted, fly front style are also available on eBay.
I am not sure about Crombie's new offerings. They seem skimpy and overpriced to me.
If you do not mind used clothing there are a wealth of fine English overcoats on eBay at give away prices. There just does not seem to be a demand for them nowadays.
I don't mind paying less than 1500 for a coat, so your idea certainly makes sense. Could you post me a link to one of your searches on ebay? I tried searching myself but I did not find many good looking coats, just one British warm with leather buttons. Full disclosure: I am new to ebay.
Thanks for your reply!

^ Ivanov what size are you? 38 40 &42 are plentiful even in British Warm. Search on British Warm, Crombie, Invertere, Grenfell and your chest size and eventually you will find good stuff. Tweed and your chest size may work but will mostly be jackets. Get armpit to armpit measurements as many posters misreport sizes . A 40 is not 20 pit to pit there are a couple of extra inches so fit is not skin tight.
I am on it! Thank you Kingston1an...Although I've never had second hand clothing before, I will explore the option.
Does anyone have any idea why greatcoats are not in demanding. I find them dashing, perhaps it is the short trend...shorter overcoats are in vogue?
I thought the Crombie military coat looks nice but this whole slim fit business rubs me the wrong way. Why would I want a slim fit greatcoat?? Am I wrong to think this?
