Steve Mcqueen seemd to wear stone and light colour pants and chinos alot in the early sixties.I`ve seen pics  of him wearing them around this time taken by William Claxton in his book and i think this might be another lesser known one of those.(There are also lots of pics of him wearing plain `natural` and white colour `crew socks` with light colour pants). Personally i`d only wear stone coloured chinos in daytime but i think they were a really good choice of the sunny and bright location. I think the particular chinos in this pic act as a really congenial and perfect foil and counterpoint for the more `mature` maroon sweater and Harris Tweed jacket.
The good ol` Playboy` style chukka footwear that he used to wear ALOT also helps compliment the look and for me gives the look a jazzy, laid-back feel to my mind.  .The location looks sunny and bright.It looks like he could`ve been in California in this pic .What i think i really like about the stone colour chinos is the fact that although they are still neutral coloured (and thus very versatile) they are perhaps a brighter , more youthful and `carefree colour` than the traditional khaki colour chino`s.I also think  that slim stone colour chinos can flatter, offset and go really well with some of the more traditional and muted colours and items of the original late fifties/early sixties Ivy style palette .
