My first proper day off in a few weeks, so having a day of r'n'r ( rum and ruination).
Hahaha. Enjoy!
Poncho Sánchez double CD compilation. It's old school Latin jazz and mambo reconfigured for the 80s and 90s. He's a great conguero plus his band swings.
I watched some horrible movie a few nights ago, called...... I can't remember. It had Cal Tjader performing poolside. I thought of you, Yuca. It was called For Singles Only. Late sixties flick where some chicks move into some sexually-charged singles community. But when I saw Cal playing by the pool with his band I couldn't believe it.
Damn, how was their style? He had a swinging band in that era. In the 70s he added some electric piano with a sound I don't like but in that era he sounded great. But it was around then his attire went swiftly downhill.
I'm honestly not sure. They're only actually shown for a few seconds. I'm pretty sure they're in dark suits or sport coat / trouser combos. They didn't look bad.
What was the tie width?

hahaha. That movie's ridiculous, yet saved to an extent by some fairly decent clothes at times and then of course girls shaking their bodies in bikinis. That's why I can't really recall much of Cal's duds, because he's playing at the pool and providing the soundtrack for some gyrating and giggling. But, Yuca, I believe the ties were slim.
Les McCann Ltd, On Time, with Joe Pass on Fender Jazzmaster.
Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and the great Elvin Jones on drums. Look at that jacket on Elvin at the 10 minute mark. Also, Tyner had hands the size of frying pans.

Like he just got off work at the warehouse or something. I love how he and Trane duet toward the end. I think I would really like doing a drum/sax duo.

Recently pulled out a couple of my old Wayne Shorter LPs, and these have been getting some spin on the old table: Night Dreamer and Juju. The latter is by far the better one, I've decided, even though I am a huge fan of Lee Morgan's trumpet on the former.
Sam Taylor - Jazz for Commuters
^ love a bit of Dick Morrissey, we used to go to a pub in Deal ( I think it was called The Alma ) to watch him play in the late 90s, at that point he was in a wheelchair but still coming out weekly to play. He'd happily sit and chat for hours about his experiences in the world of Jazz and the list of who he played with is enormous.
He's also the sax player on "Love Theme" by Vangelis from the Bladerunner soundtrack ( his PRS money from this meant he had a relatively comfortable later years despite his illnesses )
I might get that. Sounds great from your description.
