There's no need for such a thread. Literally any photo with a man in it qualifies and I certainly don't want to puy my entire album in here.

that really is shocking .. does anyone know how on earth you can walk around in double monks with the straps undone? i have a pair and the heel will slip out without the straps holding the vamp down (thats what they are for for gods sake?!) .. how do these igents logistically do it?!

i feel i have to come in and defend them now FNB! Long before i discovered that there was such a thing as 'forums on mens style' I liked both single and double monk straps, i'll try to explain why they make good shoes although i have to concede they have been 'hijacked' by the iGent sadly.
the way they are constructed usually means the instep is higher than a normal shoe (oxford & ofcourse a loafer) similar to a derby & additionally the fact that the tongue of the shoe effectively acts as the vamp means more comfort than a traditional oxford without the overly relaxed look of most loafers or derbys. therefore they work well for guys such as myself who have a high instep (if you have a low instep then i would recommend avoiding them!).
the other advantage is that they are more dressy than a loafer / derby but usually more comfortable than a oxford all other things being equal and consequently make them a great 'bridging' shoe between casual things (which i may do during the day) and evening where i may go to a restaurant or show in the west end, in an ideal world i would go home and change but frankly often its just not convenient and if you are out with friends it seems a bit odd to break up only to rejoin people later on because you need to change! i like clothes & shoes which you can wear from one place to another and fits seemlessly in a multitude of enviroments .. more economical that way too!
the difference between the single and double monk in terms of practise is minimal as usually there is no point unstrapping the lower one on a double monk, you keep it done up all the time and so only have to do up the top one. you are right its fiddly to do up a strap, but on the other hand it doesnt come undone halfway down the street like a lace. i have the C&J Seymour 2 model in a very dark oak colour ..

they also seem to work with town worsted wools/flannels as well as country cords/tweeds so bridge the town country divide well too .. id urge you chaps to give them a go (lobb makes some great models/c&j & churchs both have nice models) if you have a medium to high instep .. just because the Igent has laid claim to them doesnt mean that they should be avoided .. if I operated this way after reading SF I would stop wearing western dress altogether and perhaps start wearing traditional nigerian garb or perhaps japanese kimonos

Those are hilarious...but only because my eye is so used to conservative suiting...Objectively those are rather creative pieces, except for the one in the middle of course--it hurts my eyes
