Better to have shoos that are too big so they don't hurt your feet LOL. As Howard at AAAC said "my dad always said to buy shoos two sizes too big to make extra sure they never hurt".  I think many people wear shoos too big. Then again, many igents want the `bespoke look' so they like their shoos one size to small to avoid the shoos creasing.

When l was a kid l used to wear my shoos a size too big. Easy to do when you don't know any better.

I'd never heard this.  The idea is not implausible, but I highly doubt either of the named suspects.  Herr Kabbaz seems totally done with the game, and was a hothead to boot, but Howard benignly lingers on.  Andy is just too milquetoast and uninspired for such shenanigans.
I have read of the ancient "Melinda" Allen Smithee account, but it's unbelievable enough that one person could keep up the Howard act for so many years.  There is also the presentation of a few credible photos.
