I agree with Marlowe I have only one long sleeved madras and I don’t wear it.
Funny that you imply it might be an English thing as I have always thought the
No short sleeve ,roll your sleeves up mantra was more part of a preppy/trad US doctrine.
Short sleeve for the madras gets my vote.
It doesn't matter to me whether or not my doctrine is trad/preppy, I just want sound medical advice, and for him to be gentle.
I rarely want to wear something with sleeves when it's summer and 25 + degrees out. Did someone here buy the two dead stock madras shirts from Kennedy's of New England that were on Ebay last year?
Henry, could you possibly offer the madras shirt in both long and short sleeve?
I'd offer the long sleeve option only, and then just supply a pair of scissors.
Seriously though, if you really like a shirt, but want it S/S just go take it to the tailor, we used to cut sleeves off all the time in the summer for customers. Then make a nice pocket square with what's left over?

They will be cheaper than the OCBD's as the cloth is way cheaper so that may well be an option for people.
All my madras save for two shirts are short sleeved. I agree that the cloth is better suited and looks best with a pair of bermudas or khakis on a summer day. I hardly wear my long sleeved madras shirts, but I have turned a few jivy patterned button downs into short sleeves when they were an inch or so scant at the wrists. It's no big deal and costs as much of little as a basic hem job.
I have the Mercers bold madras in a long-sleeve and is actually a very fine winter shirt beneath a v-neck jumper, they can work beyond summer and bermudas.
My Fitzgerald shirt arrived yesterday, wearing it today: superlative roll and perfect size in a Medium (16-34).
Happy days.

3 cheers for H!!
Thanks Captain!
A lot of what you see with this whole venture is Tom's work, I'm indebted to him. Check out his design consultancy The Design Conspiracy, and a bit about FC that's just gone up on their website.

3 cheers for Tom too!!...ah the Salisbury...thought those mirrors looked familiar!
Too kind H, I was lucky that you were a client who let me recommend ideas and went with them.
Gotta say, when we all met for coffee at Bar Italia I was secretly excited about the Salisbury - it wasn't an easy shoot, but I think we achieved a lot.
Hip hip....
The Eagle has landed in San Francisco!
It was passed amongst friends and fellow ivysists at a cocktail party last night Henry, and all were impressed!

Calling Jim the 'Bez of Ivy' shows you either have little understanding of the Happy Mondays, or Ivy clothing.
...Or both.
Just a quick update for those of you not following FC on Facebook, our Madras shirts will be up on the website mid June and will be £95 each. Also going to be adding a blue and white uni stripe Oxford at the same time, price on those TBC.
