Haven't yet been, but White Manna in Hackensack, NJ, has a fanatical following...

Vaclav, I think you will be safe at most of the places I listed, with some exceptions noted above. But these places may change what bun they use in the future, or may have switched since I've been there. You can always call them if you're particularly concerned about this.
Now I really want a hamburger. Anyone in the Boston area who wants to get a burger sometime, PM me. Instead of the CSE, we can have the OBE, or Order of Burger Excellence.
Another good burger: Les Halles. The downtown (John St.) outpost is usually not crowded except during weekdays at lunch. Good meat and they know how to cook it. To be charitable, the service is not the best.

Michael Jordan's restaurant and bar in Grand Central are both good for a burger. The bar menu boasts a 3 slider plate which is amazing.
Don't bother with Zip burger. i ate there the other night.
they actually charge for lettuce tomato and onion. the pickels are free.
the first buger ordered medium was barely cooked.
the tomato and lettuce were just taken out of a very cold refregerator.
the second burger was cooked a bit more and I could eat least eat it.
the fries were good.
My office is right near the shake shack. it is usally way too busy during lunch.

Don't ask for ketchup at Louis' Lunch. Literally, you can be thrown out for the mention. No bun. Lettuce tomato onion on bread. Nice atmosphere though. The best burger in Fairfield County was Jeremiah Donovan's in Norwalk. With the old time boxing pictures on the walls. But it closed last summer I'm told. Have to think before I give a vote in CT. You can get a good steak at the Cotton Gin in Hamden.
