I thought the contrived nature of The Chap was all part of the tongue in cheek humour?
^ There is more than a hint of smug elitism, a bit like Boris Johnson hamming it up.
I've grown to respect Boris after he did the column in The Telegraph advising why we shouldn't arm the Syrian jihadists.

I got photographed by Ms Callahan a couple of weeks ago......I was dressed up quite nicely.

Looking at specific results to identify iGentrification is not as as good as looking at some of the root elements of iGentry. If you understand what makes an iGent tick, you will understand how to cure his affliction.
For instance, classical iGent behavior is while knowing nothing about clothes or style, one can assert that there is only one proper shirt to ever wear and yet still remain on a clothing forum for a decade.
But on an even more general level being an iGent involves at least two fundamental psychological flaws with regards to clothing. These flaws are the denial of both the seduction and hierarchical principles of clothes. These two principles are so inherent to dressing well that their removal (or denial) will almost always lead to the sort of visual disasters that splatter the pages of "What am I wearing today" threads.
It really is as if they are simply getting dressed for one, solitary photograph in order to become at one with their aristocratic (This is a coincidence, iGents do not believe in class) idols from the past.
