A lot of these forums need an overhaul:

I hadn't realized what a puritanical lot these latter-day Capone wannabes are!
Anyway, you're very welcome here, Chanteuse.
As Tommy Cooper demonstrates, the hat is all you really need to get in character

...........and not a fez in sight for this one.
I know quite a few of the SoCal posters on Fedora Lounge IRL since many of them go to swing dance events, which my missus and I used to go to quite a bit so we have a lot of friends in that "scene" who are friends with FLers. Nice people overall, nail hit on the head that it's like a reenactment society, even tho they would never say they are. Reminds me of those groups that dress like knights and play real life D&D. Quite a few of them know clothes very well, but not in a broad general sense of understanding clothes, just vintage style, which means they automatically support a standard of quality by default since much vintage gear is made with it. But I'm not sure many of them could actually articulate what makes a vintage shirt or shoe good quality, other than using the established catchphrases like "it's rayon gabardine"
mine mumbled something about "fuckin jagoffs", then fell off of his chair.
