Re: What shoe brands do you own?

When l ordered those Cleverleys they said: "you've got enough shoos, why do you need more" (they don't understand bespoke is a whole new ball game). and then "how much are you paying for them, they better not be more than $1,000, otherwise you are stupid for wasting your money". (1k?...bwahahaha...l wish it was smile lol ).

Shooey did you mean they said a rtw shoe over 1k sterling is a waste of money?

Can I ask why you have a strong preference for leather soled shoes..might be me getting on a bit in years but I find leather heels and soles don't give as much shock absorption as I'd like ..can feel my bones rattle as I walk .. Well almost anyway!

Re: What shoe brands do you own?

Thanks for your thinking, leather soles require work in that they feel stiff and uncomfortable to start but can become nice and flexible after some time.

Hepcat hit the nail on the head with the weather, this week in London has demonstrated the point well .. It's been slowly pissing away ..it suckers you into thinking you can get away with wearing leather soled shoes as its only a drizzle ..you walk a little way down the street and it starts to drizzle a little more and before you know it you're bloody soaked. And it's day after day so how do you rotate rubber soled shoes unless you have 3/4/5 pairs of rubber soled shoes?

What's wrong with them? Not the most attractive pair of shoes I've seen but is there some issue I'm missing?

Re: What shoe brands do you own?

they look very tight on the instep .. some shoe makers believe the tighter the better which pisses me off to no end. its like some torture mechanism for the feet.

I would bet they were cleverly from the square toe. I thought about why I thought they were fugly and I think in part its because theres not much space between the lacing area and the cap toe .. it creates a squatty looking shoe and combined with the square toe looks like a shoe that herman munster would opt for if dressing for church on a sunday.

Re: What shoe brands do you own?

Thanks Fritzl. Completely and utterly superb shoes. Real men's shoes.

So, what do you think of my opinion on the English bespoke above, did l hit the nail right on the head? smile

Thanks for posting those Lobb too. Very interesting to see the higher heel too. Certainly something different for your collection.

You have pumped me up now Fritzl. l'm gonna post some old Lobb later. One pair is really busted, but it is good to look at them because it makes the mind wonder how they got so busted up. wink

Re: What shoe brands do you own?

Maybe the wearer has no idea how to make bespoke shoes work for him because he is clueless about footwear and couldn't guide the maker properly.  Still, no excuse for the uneven V opening in the lacing area. They certainly do look tight.

Re: What shoe brands do you own?

fortunately this pair of Cleverleys is not a showcase for british craftmanship. Imo, it's a good example what is to avoid with your initial order. It would be interesting to hear this dudes motivation to fwock up a literally simple task?

Re: What shoe brands do you own?

I find I wear my C&Js most with Bontonis close by. My 30-40s spades get a bit of work as do some EGs. I have quite a few trophy pairs including some I have simply not got around to wearing including some from the 1940s that are NOS. Don't ask me why. Some guys are reluctant to deflower virgins ...some can't wait! Weekend summer some Chinese made driving mocs and in winter chukkas from various Italian brand like Testonis.
