Sales for both companies are way up due to men rediscovering the suit.
I hope they dont merge. Men deserve to choose between trash and crap. If they do merge, then it will all be the same slop.

Cutting Buff, but fair.
For all the obloquy heaped on JAB, I will still maintain that their Signature Gold suits at 70% off are a pretty fair value for the fellow who won't or can't spent appreciably more for a suit.
Some of you may have seen a recent characterization of the contemporary Brooks Brothers as "JAB without the perpetual sales" or something to that effect.
The articles on these two stores seem to suggest that suit buying is slumping a bit.
I saw brooks is opening up a restaurant:

Do fries go with that suit?:

This is the kind of crap that happens when companies try to make money. This endless dilution would stop if they would just forget about the bottom line for a change.
Every company has got to watch its bottom line. However, it is often wise to stick to what you're good at. Allen-Edmonds is trying to branch out more into general menswear. I note that all their bowties are pre-tied, which augurs ill for the character of their future offerings.
