Re: Happy f**kin New Year

I've nearly recovered from NYE.

My favourite bit was at the neighbourhood party - a tradition - the big flat screen TV was on - the Melbourne fireworks at midnight.

The TV showed a pic of someone filming the fireworks on their mobile phone.

Some at teh party were also using their mobiles phones to film the tv showing someone using their mobile to film the fireworks that were being filmed on tv.

Then someone else was filming on their mobile the people filming the TV on their mobile of the people on TV filming the fireworks on their mobile.

All unselfconsciously.

All I could think of, aside from how to get the shiraz stain out of my linen shirt and avoid stepping on the glass on the floor, was  - Andy Wharhol - Eat your heart out.

That even Aussies are now putting down the glass and not living the moment, but recording it, is the final confirmation that the entire developed world is infected with the disease.

There is the secret opposition to all of this, they operate strictly in analogue formats and Super 8....

The developing world is as bad Jeff, but shortly there will be a critical mass of images, selfies and such like, that the human condition will no longer value recording the moment for prosperity and particularly the likes of Facebook, because it will be considered absolutely worthless. We will cease to value it and we're not far away from that already. Thankfully!
