Of course, one can't take anything featured in a magazine as described--there's a lot of marketing involved, however subtle the methods; the article is the whore and the publication the pimp.
As I understand it, Lanvin never really removed their shirt-making operations; rather, they're now trying to promote it.
I'm not familiar with Lauwers as one of those "artisans" but when he was at Dunhill, it seemed he did a good job. He also boasted of making muslin try-on shirts at the White Shirt Bar as well.
I know that none of those famous British houses do not make a muslin try-on shirt.

Carl Goldberg, aka Shirtmaven, has spoken admiringly of his father's Lanvin shirts, but I can't speak to their former or current product. $700 for a shirt, however, regardless of the fabric, constitutes rape, but I hope his clients enjoy the experience.
