The picture Dryplum liked is something to do with a brand called Man 1924. Some of it looks ok to me (as far as one can tell from a picture). Prices would prevent me from buying from a store. Another £60 on top of 590 and I can get a CaT coat made.

God help us.
These guys are trying to outdo each other at a fashion show, thus there is an element of "Zoolander" to the proceedings.
To be fair, it is better than what men were wearing a few years ago which was hoodies and sweatpants.
James Laver wrote that the tie is an overt phallic symbol which by color/texture/pattern/material/quality announces the availability and virility of the wearer and that women who touch it are doing just that...touching it.
perhaps a tie is a very defined symbol of masculinity .. its one of the few accessories which is only worn by men, its never crossed over into wear by women (apart from the odd gender bending pop video).
also, if women want to get to know you, its difficult to just express interest directly as society (unfairly) brands such women as 'sluty'. Therefore they will often instead pick up on things you are wearing and say they like it, could be a tie, suit or shoes .. they probably aren't particularly interested in your tie, but it gives an opportunity for them to begin a conversation without showing any overt sexual advance on their part. I hope you realised that and lead the conversation in a more personal direction rather than talk about your tie (that really would be very iGent)

It only happens every now and then, maybe once every other month. Crunchy silk knits seem to be the way to go.
I'm the other way Dogster. I can look at these pictures for ages, scooping up ideas about colour and pattern. I see more good than bad in most of them. But then I am quite fashionable, only if I like it though. I enjoyed looking though this the other night...
