A lament for louche London

I spotted this in today's Independent. I immediately thought of Terry Lean as I read it............those were the days!

Excellent piece.

" . . . hand over a fiver, sign yourself in . . . and hit the bar, lurching."

The Three-Fold Path to Enlightenment.  Or perhaps The Four-Fold Path . . .

Re: A lament for louche London

I've always been fond of the sordid glamour of Weimar Berlin, with wealthy magnates mingling among dissolute aristocrats, hot jazz performers and whores.

Sort of also reminds me of this:

Re: A lament for louche London

I was once confused for a male prostitute while in Earls Court...

To be fair, it was about 4 am and I was drunkenly stumbling around while wearing a suit and a pink silk scarf.
