Are Your Friends & Family Members Like You?

You daydream about your favorite fabric swatches.  You admire the perfect roll in your lapel.  You marvel at the masterfully executed dimple in your neckie.  You obsess over having the perfect break in your trousers, and check to make certain each break matches the other.  Suede shoes make your mouth water.  You check that the correct amount of shirt is showing from each jacket sleeve, again each sleeve matching precisely.  You derive enjoyment from wearing a well-put together ensemble, not necessarily even caring if others notice.  You even know about the existence of clothing fora, let alone logging onto them on a regular or semi-regular basis.  Are you unique among your circle of peers, friends, and family members?

Yes, for the most part. A few have some interest in matters sartorial, but none remotely close to mine. My wife regards my enthusiasm as very bizarre. I still think it is about as safe a hobby as a man can have and as economical or extravagant as one wishes to make it. I think it is both more prudent and elegant than trying to find myself on a Harley-Davidson or taking up skydiving late in life!

My father had a very good, if classic, sense of style which he displayed generally until his mid 40s and still displays in the things he buys for my mother for birthdays and anniversaries and for me.  Since he doesn't know how to use the internet, I doubt he'd log onto a forum but we do occasionally talk about clothes and he will admire or criticize suits and combinations he sees me wearing.  Although primarily a madras (summer) or flannel (winter) shirt and khakis/cords man today, he can still turn out something smart and often rather Ivy or English when needed.

We are very similar, however (to the point of looking like fraternal twins in pictures at the same ages) so it's no surprise.

Apparently my great-great grandfather on my mothers' side was an Edwardian/George V era clothes horse, as well.

Other than that, no, but I would say they all know how to dress tastefully if an occasion calls for it.

It seems I'm the only one among my family and circle of friends who pays both an inordinate amount of attention to clothes and a king's ransom on them. Of course, people frequently notice and compliment me on the way I dress. I've also noticed that women take a much greater interest in me when I'm wearing bespoke, so though some may claim that fine clothing is not a good investment, never let it be said that it doesn't yield any dividends.

My family thinks I am insane...

But I know deep down that I am respected by people I have never met.  After all, what more could one want?

I have one friend who likes his clothes. Other than that, if there is anybody else (either family or friends), they are certainly keeping it to themselves ...

Yes; my wife is very clothes-conscious and has great appreciation for classic men's wear, including my bespoke wardrobe, Cleverley shoes, etc.

"Are Your Friends & Family Members Like You?"

Yes.

But they mainly dress, walk, talk, think, drink, etc., differently to me.
There is a core 'Sparrowishness' about us all though.
My bro. is an English Gent., but he'll dig his heels in for what's right any chance he gets. Often I think he just goes out looking for bovver... I let him borrow 'A Clockwork Orange' the other day...

My chums are a bit the same way too...

Why dumb down? Why agree with the stupid?

Yes, you'll make lots of chum sthat way, but the chums you make will be pond scum.

Better to be honest & be loved for it.

...just like me.  smile
