If I had to create a list of the top five douchebags in the history of the world, Nietzsche would been knocking on the door of the number one spot.
Nietzsche. The guy was terrible.
Sure he was.
Megalomaniac and probably schizophrenic and whatnot, at least in the end.
The main problem with the guy is that you can use some Nietzsche quote for each opinion and for its opposite.
Some of his writings are rather vile. Traits of vitalism and of social Darwinism etc...
As the enlightener of the enlightenment he can be rightfully blamed for being the godfather of postmodernist/ poststructuralist thinking, as well as all this Konservative Revolution Scheiße from Spenler to Jünger, from Schmitt to Heidegger...
Nietzsche himself did write a few nuggets, though.
The main problem is he wasn't a good human being. The nicest thing I can say about him is he wasn't as terrible as his sister.
At least Hegel was a decent person.

Voltaire was a pompous towards Rousseau, who had many problems, but Rousseau>>>>>>>>>Voltaire. I admire Voltaire's advocacy of separation of church and state though. He just hated on Rousseau because Rousseau, like Thomas Jefferson, idealized the free country man, and Voltaire was a decadent city slicker.
Locke distilled a lot of ideas into intelligible action. Spinoza was a pivotal figure, but like Hegel, chained to a Christian world. Plus he was overly blowhard, which harmed his theory.
Hobbes, lol.

I like this far more than the German bashing, personally. I can really get down with some social contract entertainment. But why doesn't anyone ever mention de Groot?!! Actually, y'all have got me in the mood for a little Scotch Enlightenment.
You thinkin' the Thomas Reid kind of enlightenment, or the Cutty Sark version?
Cutty
^ That's the best kind.
Unrelated, is anyone else having huge database issues with the forums? I can barely get on anymore.
Yes. The forum has been experiencing some as of yet undetermined technical issues. The mods are working furious overtime trying to find a "workaround". At least that's the word the tech guys in my office throw around. Actually, I'm getting a tad tight and watching music videos on youtube.
Good strategy.
God. I think I just barfed a little bit in my mouth. Does that mean I'm drinking too much too quickly? Good thing for you guys, I'm wearing a really short pleather skirt and have an Auburn sweatshirt on. Roll TIDE!!!! WOOOO!!!!!
Jeff, I did say "Scotch". Not "Scottish".
lol
Speaking of Scottish Enlightenment, I always liked Hume, partly because, at least to me, he seemed kind of hard to pin down. While I no doubt breezed through his writings, particularly on religion, they did intrigue me and I should probably revisit some of his works.
