If you really enjoy something you don't care who is paying attention. I like this backwater even if there is less and less to discover it means the people left really do take an interest and that's alright by me, and although many of us enjoy the same/similar things, the distinction between the wardrobe and TI is obvious and is a fair separation imo, there is always NSFW as a proving ground for off topics.
It's one of the few spaces online I'm not bludgeoned by adverts, well maybe ones from the 1950s, but that's ok too
I hope Stanshall won't mind my sharing this excerpt from something he wrote to me ....
'everybody here contributes positively, and when they don't have much to add they just read and that's fine
the people who stick around are people who are still interested
it's like the library at a nice club, a few people are always there reading, but it never was supposed to be standing-room-only'
Whats a library?

I peruse this forum at least every other day but log on and contribute rarely.
I cannot abide the incoherent nonsense that is Style Forum, what little I have seen of dappered bores me, and AAAC increasingly caters to the educationally subnormal.
I recall the sentiment, and here I paraphrase, the pulse of this forum may be slow but it is steady and distinct.
Furthermore, it is necessary.

I feel like it's a forum for people that could just as well be doing something else, but are too lazy to be doing it

Of all titles, how the hell does this thread stay at the top of the heap?
Why don't you all start new threads?
And no, just because I am starting threads I am not "taking away" "space" which you otherwise could use.
Walker started a black tie thread, which you then insulted him in. So that's a start.
Where is that new black tie thread?
I've got like a dozen new black tie shirts for parties I should photograph and put on. And a new set of cufflinks and studs.
Ah, that's right, he just resurrected it. Not new, my mistake. Still, it was some non-Beeston activity.
Here are my answers to the resurrected part of the thread:
"Black tie for example"
"Why not put on a funny hat? Or are you afraid of getting noticed?"
"Eveybody knows that Ivy people always wore funny hats because their privileged background."
And as you can see, those were incredibly helpful answers. Really got to the heart of the matter.
Beeston, do you want the honest answer? No one makes new threads because no one really cares about the same old Hermes ties or Turnbull & Asser shirts except you, and those are 95% of the threads on here. That's what The Wardrobe has become - Beeston's Attic of Boring Delights. And when someone brings something else up, or responds to your threads, you're often hard to deal with, which drives people off from posting again. When you start more relatable threads, like the fragrance thread or the rotation thread or the seasons thread, you get good responses. That's just how it works.
Interestingly, we got a lot more new threads and increased member activity here when you were banned. But hey, correlation is not causation. I'm sure it was just a funny coincidence.
I find beeston very entertaining and certainly interesting, if people could just be a little bit less precious (and that includes him) then the game would flow a bit better. Imo At the moment its like a pastiche of all that is sad about menswear forums.
