Thank you, Acton-.
Just back from the shop where they sell records. I picked up Tame Impala's Live Versions on LP. It was all they had in stock, but as is my wont when obsessed with something new, I went a little overboard and ordered all three studio LPs.
Supporting the independent business owner, doncha know.

Are there any RSD goers? I have to say, I don't see much in the list of special releases that interests me. But I seem to get pulled into the phenomenon every year anyway, and I usually buy something form the regular stock. Our local shop has promised not only a lot of RSD goods but also a greatly replenished regular stock of LPs. So, we'll see. The only thing that puts me a bit off is the crowd.
McGeorge, thank you for the rec, and yes, I hear ya on the downside of RSD. I revise my ramblings by reiterating another common complaint, one that hits home for me: Where is the reward for the regular record shop goer?
In my case, I spend anywhere from 30 to 100 USD a month at the record store, especially given the price of new/reissued LPs these days. There's nothing to reward my loyalty when RSD rolls around once a year--just a long line to wait in, a mad throng, and overpriced merchandise.
I also suspect that my local shop owner feels roped into the thing, in a way. He's extremely independent in spirit, and so I can only imagine that he harbors some misgivings, but, as a business owner, he can only risk losing customers if he ignores the day.

^ I'm with you two, every day is a record store ( or thrift/charity shop/junk shop when it comes to vinyl ) day,
RSD can throw up some interesting in-store gigs, but I tend to avoid unless it's something really good, current rumours of Thurston Moore busking in and around Brick Lane tomorrow and Dennis Bovell playing vintage dub-plates somewhere in Soho .
/\
Chipper, after reading about your experiences last year, your approach of spending your vinyl dollar over the course of the year seems ever more sensible.
That said, those sound like interesting events down London way, Acton.
I'm doubly bummed about RSD this year, as I'll be over in Manchester and then Liverpool on Saturday, and the choice record shops I'd normally visit there will presumably be packed to the gills. Darn it.

This song has been a lifelong favorite of mine. More than any other song, it reminds me the world is a ridiculous place filled with far too many judgmental people.
