Had a moleskin chore jacket in Hydrone and the Burel wool jacket from 'Tout pour L'Ouvrier' online - supreme service and delivery. The Burel jacket worked out half the UK price (if you can find one) - although, in regard to the chore - after hanging out with Thee Captain - feeling a bit of collar envy on the moleskin ....

I might be very, very wrong about these - and 'chore jackets' - but I think they're bollox. Are they not often described as 'heavy'? Heaviness in clothing can be quite pleasing but it doesn't really fit in with the Ivy ideal - does it?
I remember, years ago, buying Hawkins Astronauts for a fiver in a local charity shop. Postman's shoes. I wore them to turn the compost heap. Then someone on here advised me to clean them up and stick them on Ebay. Which I did. They did sell but not exactly for a king's ransom, to some chappie in Germany. Maybe he was a postman. Or had a compost bin.
Anyone disagree? I know Vetra are currently finding favour. So, if I do want to imitate Tati in 'Jour De Fete', I'll know what to wear.

I have just bought a wool Curly Wurly Vetra Chore.
It's a cross between a thick cardigan and a short jacket. The material was the clincher.
I like Vetra quality a lot and own several of their blazers but this was a bit of a departure for me. What puts me off chore jackets in general is that they remind me of BL factory workers clothing. Slightly shapeless and utilitarian.
And before Yuca slams me for belittling factory workers I should clarify that I wish nobody in the local automotive industry ill. I simply don't want to pay +£100 to look like I've just finished a shift.

I'm puzzled by the 'Curly-Wurly' bit. It sounds like (perhaps) The Guv'Nor's sense of (wry) humour. Is the material a fairly hefty cotton? Like Keydge? I can't quite imagine it.
I intend to subscribe, in the New Year, to 'Die Workwear'. It sounds like a worthy cause to me. Levis (and Bean etc.) aside I have dabbled. But I stopped doing it. The Filson etc. I had I sold. The 'Joe's Garage' shirt I had I sold.
I feel the same way about militaria. I never went in for Buzz Rickson, but I had the Woody-style army jacket and a pretty good pilot coat.

I seem to be moving towards a more workwear wardrobe. I like the look of the curly wurly. I can justify the move because I no longer spend so much time in an urban environment.(I know, Hoxton and all that). Last time I bought something I justified my purchase to the Mrs by saying I would wear it for outside work. She turned round and said 'no you won't, it's for 'best''. Result! She bought me some Dickies strides for my birthday. I didn't know whether to be pleased or disappointed.

I seem to have moved rapidly in the direction of utilitarian sportswear. Comes as a surprise to anyone who knows me. I've always considered a game of chess with the window open as outdoor exercise. But I've become a convert to USA-made Russell Athletic. A dozen or so years ago, though, I was in Champion. Only as very, very informal gear, including nylon warm-up jackets from Notre Dame etc. Camber have a certain appeal, too.
I saw Dickies as a kind of fashion thing in Italy circa 2006. Couldn't quite get my head around it then and can't now.

The heavy material is woven to create a texture that looks almost ribbed.

Quite like the Chore, bought one from Uniqlo 30 quid, gets a lot of wear, and with the top button done up it's got that Sun Yat-Sen vibe about it. Even has enough pockets to put "The Thoughts of Chairman RG" in.
