Re: 1970 AM Radio Rock Bands

Exactly that really....Doobie Brothers is sounding good and what's lead me into it with the good synth and keys work..good rhythm section too

Also thought ventura highway sounded decent...I guess Stephen Stills qualifies too?

Re: 1970 AM Radio Rock Bands

"Signs" by Five Man Electrical Band. Probably epitomizes early 70s AM rock.

Fanny. Al Stewart. Hall and Oates. Tony Orlando and Dawn. ABBA. Wings. The Guess Who. The Carpenters. Steve Miller Band. Jim Croce. Mac Davis. Captain and Tenille. Elvin Bishop.

Oh, God, I'm starting to have some major flashbacks, not all of them good.

/\  Bop, are you wondering about 1970 specifically or about the entire '70s?

Re: 1970 AM Radio Rock Bands

There were some killer breaks made by the bands above. Back when I was a vinyl addict I used to love cutting my double copies of the Jack and Diane intro (and plenty more).

The best has got to be Steve Miller: Take the Money and Run, Fly Like an Eagle and Macho City are all superb (the whole tracks not just the breaks).

some sort of banal legitimacy

Re: 1970 AM Radio Rock Bands

Thanks for putting in the time on that stan...the 70s musically to me is pretty much a grey area compared to the 60s which i feel like I know like the back of my hand, I shall study the lists.

Re: 1970 AM Radio Rock Bands

Im very much enjoying the Doobie Brothers at the mo..I was speaking to the FinL last night and he said when the label were discussing with Steely Dan whether Mcdonald or Fagan should be the lead singer, Fagan said words to the effect of...do you want someone who sounds like white the Stevie Wonder or a screeching Jew? They went with the screeching Jew..which is not a bad thing as its given us two great bands instead of one...
