Is the Barbour International the best jacket ever produced by barbour.
with it`s black waxed cotton and motorcycle connections- it has a sophisticated air of rebelliousness and mystery.
It`s herritage originates with submarine crew issue-an air of daring heroism.
with its buckled belt - the jacket can be cinched at the waist giving the wearer the appearance of the all manly" V"-broad shoulders narrow , waist and hips.( Even makes a lumpy old rag like me look "buff")
the more worn it becomes - the better it looks.
as a casual jacket it is unsurpassed- imho.
still made in England.
and it`s waterproof.
I propose that the Barbour international jacket now becomes a new British Icon- and the post office issue a set of commerative stamps.
I now need to add a caveat .
I`ve just visited the barbour website to post a picture of the International- and they have gone and changed everything - they have made the international modern.
the Jacket I was refering to is now done in barbour brown and is called the International -heritage.
Strike the bit about rebelliousness and mystery.
Damn shame - says I.
why do the "suits" allways have to meddle with things?
Also what was the barbour "country jacket" which was belted - I think it may have been the Solway- But not sure.
Grandfather used to have an ancient one- that Granny patched herself with patches cut from an even older jacket- She used to cut out the patch and then bind the edges- Almost like a blanket stitch - and sew the patch straight on to the top surface-Grandfather would then wax the repair with a tin of wax- and off he`d go on his merry way.
all this reminds me of my Grandfathers favourite saying.
"let the refreshing breeze of mild insanity flow between your ears occasionaly - it keeps you healthy" .
gosh we do miss him.-the crazy old bastard.

well Done Moose- thats the one-would the motorcycle rider be Dougie Lampkin(sr) do you know?
Steve McQueen
was this a practice run for the big motorcycle jump in the "great escape" do you know?
wasn`t he the coolest guy?
sadly taken to soon- I wonder what he would be like now- were he still alive?
I believe the photo was taken at the International Six Day Trials in Erfurt in 1964.
Belstaff was, until recently, another supplier of authentic weatherproof British motorcycle gear. Now, they have re-branded to become fashionable. Shame, that.
