Edward Green pop up sale
Off Brick Lane in the old Truman brewery.

Queues to get in. Interesting to see who was in the queue. Lots of orientals. Also a few city types in suits. I used to nip out for a quick haircut in the firm's time, but queueing for a sale is pushing it.
Got a pair. Just under half price - which is still dear. They did have Dovers in stock but not in dark colours. Light brown is not much use in the UK for most of the year. Also had Galways but I have a good pair of veldtschoen boots (Cheaney) already and I paid a fraction of Edward Green prices.

Is Edward Green going the way of Church's I wonder? Lots of sales and discounts, a sure sign the RRP is too high.

Edward Green never even used to have a factory shop a few years ago.
Now they do the Lobb thing - no prices in the window of the Jermyn Street shop.

Seems like they have recently passed the 1k€ barrier, not bad.
Do their shoes actually fit anyone on here? I've tried them once with disastrous results. After going up one full size they were harder to break in than a pair of JM Weston Chasses. My feet still hurt when I think of them.

I've a pair of EG's on the fiddle vamp in a deep antique patina and they're pretty comfortable, but required some breaking in. They're quite a svelte last and with leather soles they're pretty much a summer shoe for me, which is 3 or 4 months of the year at most.
The last time I was tempted to buy a pair was 10 years ago now and was a decent pair of brogues in burgundy from a shop in Maastricht. They were €785 as I remember, a shop started selling them in the centre of the Hague a few years ago, €900 a pop. They had stocked with the range of dainty Johnny Lobb style 18th century slip-on buckled shoes which didn't work for them.
Again, I am drawn to the quality and value/biggest bang for the buck that is Crockett & Jones.

Heppy, are you sure? Have you seen them in real life? In my eyes the most ungainly last of all C&J lasts.
Go 337 or 363.

Aye, the 335 last is somewhat snub-nosed at the front. Haven't seem them in the flesh.

EGs are a lot more comfortable than C&J (even handmade) but C&J 337s are better designed and somewhat reasonably priced.
