Curious if anyone else has seen Alan Zweig's film VINYL. It was a good reminder for me about the dangers of becoming obsessive about record collecting, or about any single pursuit, actually.
Yeah, I think one of Zweig's points is that it's okay to have records and enjoy them as physical objects. It's a whole other thing to be obsessive about the collecting. For many people in the film it is all about the endless pursuit of more objects and there's little actual appreciation for the music itself.

I've spent a good deal of time this summer just digging into my collection and listening to what I have, instead of buying more. I've gained a new appreciation for a lot of stuff I hadn't listened to in a while. I feel still the lure of the record store, and I've recently been picking up a few things, but I feel like I'm now more thoughtful about it.
The New Orleans sound. You can hear some of The Meters style in this slightly infectious instrumental.

Spinning my old gold Elektra label Waiting for the Sun. (Stereo, alas, no mono.) Hope to post pix tomorrow!
