Robert Mueller once told a colleague at the FBI to change his clothes: “Sir, you told me that we dress like lawyers here.” Mueller: “Yes. But not like drug lawyers.”
GO OFF KING!

How many "Robert Mueller doesn't say anything" articles can people write?
If I recall correctly, someone wrote a whole article on his style. Was it in the New Yorker?
That drug lawyer story is great. I really admire Mueller's style - he wears clothes that fit, and he obviously relishes the routine of having a uniform. I have a lot of clothes that Mueller would never wear (even though I don't dress flashily either), but I still enjoy that aspect of things. Shirt, tie, jacket, loafers, gray trousers or khakis... It's easy and it works, and I can focus on other things.
I've posted a similar pair of photos to the 2001/2013 ones in that article. It's wonderful how little changed.
Note - there's plenty to talk about here just style-wise, so have at it. And civil discussion is always encouraged, on clothes or any topic. But "Own the libs" or "Orange man bad" will be del eted.
Yes an interesting read, as were some of the linked articles. A stalwart public servant, whose dress sense seems to reflect his approach to life. The Stellar Wind scenario provides a useful insight to his mindset. I wouldn't want to be investigated by him and I'm not sure I would want to work for him either. Maybe when I was 30 it would have been okay.
I get that when you are doing 14+ hour days you don't want to get up at 05:00 and have to choose a shirt and tie. That's why I always lay my stuff out the previous evening before I turn in!
If Mrs Mueller is reading this: please buy your hubbie a vintage watch for Xmas. Something from the 50s, 60s or maybe 70s. Hamilton is my favourite but I'm sure there are plenty of other good choices. He could do a lot worse than the Casio it's true but an old Hamilton would be an improvement without I think compromising his non-ostentatious principles.
Bob probably uses that watch to time himself when he's running laps or something hardcore like that.
I have a stopwatch that I think cost me a fiver that I use for such endeavours. Mrs Mueller could add one to her husband's stocking.
I imagine that he wears the Casio because most/all other contemporary watches seem to be oversized status symbols. And he's not got the time or inclination to be collecting vintage anything.
Interesting account of Mueller's tour in Vietnam:

The quote that stuck with me from this:
“Once you think about it—do it,” he told me. “I’ve always made my bed and I’ve always shaved, even in Vietnam in the jungle. You’ve put money in the bank in terms of discipline.”
File that under things I admire but just can't emulate. I reiterate my feeling that Mueller is an incredibly admirable man, but probably not much fun...
Weak collar roll
/\ that is one truly sad sack
Perhaps he's one of those weirdos ... who don't think about clothes ... just go in shops, buy them and wear them. Maybe his previous sartorial achievements were just accidental? It does underline the fact that if you want the traditional American look you have to go and seek it out.
Great thread but It's become kind of a rogues' gallery. Graham is barely tolerable but no more Bolton please. He is a pretty vile character.
