Re: A classic combination

Looks alright but its a bit conservative for me. I'm just thinking how to liven it up TBH.

A blue on white pencil stripe shirt would have been better with a white on navy double bar rep, white folded PS and a bit of cuff,  (I guess that could just his arm movement) and smoking a joint and slipping Captains Morgans Golden Spice rum and coke in a long glass would be taking it up the scale of cool for me. Maybe even really own it and wear a sequined eye patch.

Re: A classic combination

It's almost impossible for candidates running for high office to display any flair in dress. They have to worry about offending any one of dozens of demographic groups. Further, that fear is underlined by large amounts of  politico research that re-proves this theory that there are a lot of voters who dont trust a politician who wears anything that might suggest either that they think they're "superior" or possess luxury appetites.

Nothing offensive about the oufit but it's rare you'll find stripes on a "national" level politician. Many of the State level ones wouldnt know how to dress if their graft depended on it.

Ah! Yes, striped suits are pretty much extinct. Makes me want to hunt one down now... I don't count Roger Stone...

Striped suits in Blighty are very conserative. That wouldn't be classed as flash, neither I think in any of the northern European countries.

Re: A classic combination

There’s definitely a race to the bottom in terms of blandness for most politicians these days, for the reasons mentioned above, which is a shame. Biden does at least appear to make some effort in terms of fit etc. even if he is working within the strict self-imposed conventions of Capitol Hill. He was interviewed in Esquire (or was it GQ?) a couple of years ago and was sporting a white-face stainless steel Daytona so he gained a couple of ‘good taste’ points in my book!

Re: A classic combination

Tucker Carlson wears black suits?

That politician looks, well, like a politician.  I think the needle has moved for Americans in terms of acceptance of more flamboyantly dressed Politicians but old habits die hard and frankly the politicians think they still have to wear inoffensive rig which translates into insipid style.

Re: A classic combination

If a politician wears a suit with arms not down to their knuckles, pants pooled at shoes or less than an inch gap between their shirt and jacket collar they are considered well dressed.  Dress ever so slightly better than the masses to not offend.  Like most things now, the race to the bottom.  Pull each other down so you don't have to feel bad about yourself.

Re: A classic combination

The photos were following more from earlier comments about striped suits on national-level politicians, as I think the thread has moved on from the original topic a bit. But as both of these men are American (one a member of one of the oldest families in the country) and live in the U.S. currently, I also don't see how something not being seen as acceptable in other countries would be very relevant to them.
