In China? In terms of clothing, the world is broken down into spheres that can be described as "Fashion" zones and "Tradition" zones. China is very squarely in the "Tradition" zone.  We could discuss this for years but basically, a tradition zone is extremely self conscious and class obsessed and is going to react very badly to any sort of personal flair. If you are in one of these zones, I suppose you need to dress to please the natives but it would be the plainest, drabbest items get-table. A lot of these cultures live in mortal fear of flamboyance or color as signs as effeminacy or decadence.
