Re: RIP David James Frost Mellor

To be fair I never saw him falling over drunk - just in good spirits! I’m not sure ‘weak at the knees’ really fits 2RS, although I would be the first to say that I found JFM to be an engaging character and fun to be around, he was a good conversationalist and knowledgeable about a lot of things as well as the clobber. I quickly assessed that most things he said about himself had to be taken with a lorryload of salt and that, providing you allowed for that, he was alright. Eventually however, some of the things he was saying and doing decided me to keep my distance, like the sketchy claims to be suffering from cancer which were later established to be false. At one point I had an email from Patrick Nahman, who I think had been duped, informing me that JFM had passed away (some years before he actually did pass away) …then a few weeks later I was not a little surprised when Jimmy rang me up and said that he was alive and well and it had all been a big misunderstanding. When I asked him how Patrick N, who I’d never even spoken to, had got my email address, he was slightly evasive and said that someone on the forum must have given it to him. After that I decided that I didn’t wish to be involved with someone who was acting that weirdly.  None of this is to lose sight of the fact that poor old JFM became a very troubled person who had a particularly sad end to his story.

Re: RIP David James Frost Mellor

I used to have some very stimulating 'conversations', via e-mail, with Patrick Nahman ('Paddy') about clothes and opera; he and I both being admirers of Lucia Popp.  I think he and the other Jim moved to Portugal some years ago.  Now, although Paddy is gay, he's also straight (so to speak) when it comes to life with a capital L - by which I mean the Internet bullshit.  I think he was genuinely fond of Jimmy.  So was I - up to a point.  But the cancer thing...  I remember being very upset and concerned and ringing Chris_H one Sunday afternoon.  Now, seeing the way my wife is after breast cancer, terrified of it returning and killing her, I'd take a pretty dim view of anyone fucking about.  Yet poor old Jimmy even told his own family he had not only cancer but was HIV.  Weird, just as Woof says.

May I suggest delicately that we leave the subject of JFM and old complications of the foum now. It feels time to step onwards and future new joiners won't have the old context.
