I'd very much like to pass this over to someone who, like 2RS, actually lives there and has access to certain shops.  Is it still possible?  Has it become more or less impossible?  In fact, would anyone in NYC still manage it without going to their version of our charity shops? 
It can't be done where I live.  Not well.  I gave up on buying from the USA years ago after seeing shipping rates climb plus getting stung by customs, first on shoes, then on items like knitwear and scarves for crying out loud. 
Does Chris_H still look in here?  He's been around - buying - longer than most.
