'Double Indemnity'

Billy Wilder at his greatest.  'Hello, Keyes'.  Fred MacMurray - one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood.  Then there's our vamp with a capital V...  If you've never seen it get it for those dark evenings that are currently on the horizon.  Oh, and the clothing?  Mm...

Re: 'Double Indemnity'

I'm going to be controversial here: the French did noir in the 1950s infinitely better than the US 1940s version. Even if the former had nowhere near as much success.

some sort of banal legitimacy

Re: 'Double Indemnity'

From what I've seen of French noir, plus the doomy, gloomy stuff from earlier on, I think you have a point, dear Yuca.  Highly atmospheric.  In fact, I think I might search out a few titles for the dark nights ahead when we're all opening tins of baked beans or eyeing the labrador as a possible source of protein.
