A poster in Another Place, who shall remain nameless, suggests that 'Talk Ivy' is now missing something, that the world has moved on from a perhaps rather static presentation. Yet, in its prime, 'Talk Ivy' presented a very entertaining mix of ideas and images, adding to rather than subtracting from, inspired blogs like 'The Syllabus' and other specialised offerings (not invariably from JG). The poster from Another Place does, however, have a valid point: even a confirmed Luddite like me can accept that. So - who thinks or knows what? Keep me informed.
The forum is its own thing without reference to anything else and only just back. It is missing some more contributors, links and pictures but those will return. I am deliberately not in those other places but I am here. The civility, insight and interest are sufficient. I am relieved to be out of any snide comments and rants elsewhere. If they are commenting, they are looking. I do not care what others think of here, as the saying goes 'what someone else thinks of me, is none of my business'. The wild wood has nothing for the likes of us...
The poster in question used to be a ivy fanatic and now doesn't wear it at all. Maybe that has coloured his opinions. I certainly find it hard to believe that any of us ever had much interest in the zeitgeist. I didn't know what was happening in the zeitgeist then and I don't know what's happening in it now.
Ultimately, the minutiae of ivy clothing is fascinating to some of us and mundane to normal people. Of course we also discuss ivy-related topics that are probably more appealing to none ivy fanatics.
What does it amount to, anyway? People selling their souls to whoever powers FB, IG, whatever. Another facet of corporate capitalism.
A quiet little corner of the internet that is not powered by ‘likes’, adverts or pop ups, but by the kindness of Film Noir Buff.
When it was going full blast members were starting their own projects; Hardy and Johnson were producing great Ivy jackets, Henry from Brighton started his own line of excellent shirts because there was nothing decent on the market. There were a couple of lads from Sweden, or was it Denmark, who set out to produce the perfect OCBD shirt at a budget price. It was some sort of college project, the shirts were good and they sold like hot cakes, then for some inexplicable reason they went into slim fit and six months later it was all over.
Like others, I'd assumed TI had vanished for good. As a reader, I got the most out of it from about 2008-11, but would check in afterwards, sometimes often, sometimes taking a long hiatus. Revisiting some of the old threads, I kind of like the lack of graphics, the spartan feel of text only. It's almost as if you can hear your footsteps echoing behind you before you sit down in an abandoned library.

Woof mentions start-up projects. The best Ivy start-up is happening right now - Jakes of London, the perfect Ivy League shirtmakers. Perfect collar and the old Brooks cut. Look them up. I have a blue chambray tab and red chambray button-down. They are completely, utterly faultless. Uncle Ian has them too - he did some modelling for them.
I mentioned Jake's a day or two ago. Apparently the owner was banned from the IS FB page by the new guy who runs it. (Who appears to know next to nothing about ivy clothing yet is convinced he's some kind of expert.) As I mentioned earlier, I'm sure Jake is very welcome on these shores. In fact, I suggest you start a Jake's thread. I've not seen them in the flesh so I don't have much to contribute but you have first hand experience.
Blue chambray is a delight in a good shirt. My first Mercer in fact was a blue chambray BD. I bet red chambray is good too.
The young boys who started up making the OCBDS as a college project were from Finland. I remember I was thinking of buying a couple until they changed strategy and started to go with a reduced collar size slim fit design. Amazing what they did as just a college project.
We had a few posters from Finland on here and Sweden as well. As I spend quite a bit of my time in Finland I was fascinated by the Ivy connection.
JS was/is an Aalto fan, particularly his furniture and I had one or two conversations with him back in the Covent Garden days.

Had the green Lean Garments oxford, sometimes got a compliment when wearing it.
Jake's looks great.
Gentlemen, these tributes to FNB and what he provides should warm the cockles of his heart.
At a sector events in Amsterdam I met a long term reader and aligned natty dresser of the site from Iceland back in 2018. Are you.... he said.

I can second Jake’s shirts.
I got a pink OCBD, bespoke made to my measurements and requirements.
They are excellent and at around £150, being not far north of what you would pay for a decent RTW, they are good value.
That's it. I've got to get one!
'A quiet little corner of the Internet'. I like that very much.
I’m trying to visualise a Talk Ivy powered by click-bait.
- ‘This weird old trick will stop you getting customs charges on your ebay parcels’
- ‘Answer these five questions and win a lifetimes supply of L’Renovatuer shoe cream’
- ‘Yuca used to look like a matinee idol - you won’t believe it when you see him now’
It was Patrick who was likened to a B movie star. I bet he hasn't changed much since then.
