Well, they are warm. But wearing one would feel wrong at my age. Not so the Gloverall and college scarf, which I would see as a stylistic improvement. Rather 'Take Ivy' perhaps.
Recently came across a photo of an Uncle, who dressed Ivy from the early 1960's onward, wearing Levis or LL Bean jeans and a varsity jacket in his mid-60's. It was a more youthful get up than he would have worn when he was a youth, but it worked.

Leer was spotted online in one recently. He just about pulled it off, but I wouldn't go there myself. On a youngster though, sure.
In the sale at Chiltern Street, I notice. These look rather nice. I did a bit of buying and selling about twelve or so years ago. They did not prove to be as popular in the UK as I'd imagined.
^ A varsity jacket sans the leather sleeves is a far more low key and stylish garment. I like that ‘Damson Plum’ one, I tried it on and was tempted but managed to reel myself back with practical, sensible thoughts along the lines of ‘you’ve got too much clobber already most of which you only wear once or twice a year’.
I checked out the Damson one on line but was put off by the prominent press popper studs. I'm always tempted by Claret, Burgundy, Wine, Plum, Maroon colours.

You hit the nail right on the head there. Ditto for the giant letters.
Agreed. A low-key number in navy or some dark shade of green might work best for the older male.
Tom posted a shot of a very nice one in green a while back (you may have been absent at the time).
I just checked the JS site and they do look good. The damson may be too strong a colour for frequent wear but the navy could make a good go to jacket.
I think the footwear would have to be given serious consideration. Maybe Red Wings? With Levis?
Red Wings, pennies, DBs, longwings, trainers (sneakers) or even boat shoes. Maybe not smooths. Jeans or chinos. I love LVCs but I very much doubt I would spend that much on jeans. Fortunately Lee, Wrangler and various other brands do classic/retro selvedge jeans in the dark shades of the past.

With pennies, slightly beat-up. Yes, I could see that as a low-key collegiate look. I'm too old to pull it off but on a younger man, certainly.
