Authentic or A-Trad?

As a recent refugee from Andyland, I have been reading that something is authentic ivy league, versus the post-RL trad as prescribed at AAAT. From my own history, my father, although not an ivy league grad, always dressed what we refer to as trad, yet he would never have worn stuff like lobster pants, popped collars, or neon colored argyle socks. Having grown up in the more daring 80's, I may attempt things my father would not, but some of the things which have been posted over there seem a bit affected, IMHO.

Can we post examples of what is pure ivy, compared to what I have been lead to beleive during my time elsewhere. My mind is a bit clouded from the experience.

For example, I read somewhere that Alden has not carried shell cordovan shoes for that many years. If so, then the belief that the only true Trad shoe is an Alden shell cordovan loafer, plain or tassle, is just plain wrong.

Re: Authentic or A-Trad?

What about them cuffs on everything?  Is that Ivy, or just Trad?

Re: Authentic or A-Trad?

jack-o,  Sometimes I try to do what you say.  I put away all my ribbon belts, grosgrain watchstraps, bow ties and fancy pants.  But I feel so boring.  Nobody looks at me.  The women won't flirt with me anymore.  What am I doing wrong?

LL Bean I think is still the most t...... store. The stuff is from overseas today. Mostly. But they are pretty true to what they used to be. Can't say that about many other places.

Maybe with a little more money Alan C. could follow his lead?
